What to do in the Outaouais region? Discover a creative and family-friendly activity in Gatineau.

Looking for things to do in the Outaouais region with children ? A family activity in Gatineau that's a change from the usual outings? Or simply a creative activity to share with family, friends, or grandparents?

At Ferme Éco des Champs , located in the Aylmer sector of Gatineau, you can now combine two worlds: a farm visit and a ceramic painting experience in Gatineau in our converted workshop bus.

An original activity to slow down, create and leave — a few days later — with a completely personalized piece.

A different idea when looking for things to do in Gatineau

Gatineau and the Outaouais region offer a wide variety of family activities: outdoor pursuits, museums, parks, recreational activities, and cultural outings. Tourisme Outaouais lists dozens of family activities in the region.

But sometimes, we're simply looking for a different activity to do with the kids in Gatineau .

Something creative.

Something we can do together.

And most importantly, something the child can keep as a souvenir.

That's exactly the idea behind our ceramic painting workshop in Aylmer .

Painting on ceramics... in a bus!

Our creative studio is not located in a traditional building.

It is located in a fully equipped bus directly at the farm .

Upon arrival, you choose your ceramic piece, then you settle into the bus to personalize it.

Our selection includes over 50 different items , including figurines, bowls, cups, ornaments, and home decor. The available selection may vary from visit to visit.

It is therefore as much an artistic activity for children as it is a creative outing for teenagers and adults.

How does ceramic painting work?

No artistic experience is necessary.

The principle is simple:

1. Choose your ceramic. Browse the different models available and find the one you love.

2. Choose your colours. Imagine your creation before you start painting.

3. Personalize your piece. Colors, patterns, details, characters or abstract creations: everyone can work at their own pace.

4. Leave us your creation. Unlike a traditional painting activity, you do not leave immediately with your piece.

5. We take care of the finishing and baking. Your creation is prepared before proceeding to the baking stage.

6. Return to collect your completed piece. Generally, allow approximately one week for collection.

This last step is often the one that children look forward to the most: discovering how the colors and finish have evolved after baking.

A family activity in Gatineau for all ages

Painting on ceramics is particularly interesting as a family activity because everyone can participate at the same time without necessarily working on the same project.

A young child can choose a small figurine.

Another person might prefer an animal.

A parent can paint a mug.

A grandparent can create a decoration.

You don't need to be "good at drawing".

The goal is simply to create something in one's own image.

That's why our workshop is suitable for different occasions:

  • parent-child outing;

  • family day;

  • activity with grandparents;

  • outing with friends;

  • creative activity for children;

  • small celebration;

  • activity during the holidays;

  • weekend outing;

  • activity for schools and nurseries;

  • Day camps and small groups.

An activity to do in Aylmer without having to go all the way to Ottawa

When looking for things to do in Aylmer , many families immediately think of parks, walks and outdoor activities.

Our workshop allows you to add an artistic experience to a day in the industry.

The Ferme Éco des Champs is located at 482 Eardley Road, in the Aylmer sector of Gatineau . Our ceramic painting studio is located directly on the farm premises.

You can therefore come solely for your ceramics activity or choose to extend your outing with a visit to the farm.

What if we combined ceramics with a farm visit?

This is what makes the experience particularly different from a traditional ceramics workshop.

Before or after your creative activity, you can also discover our agritourism farm and our animal park in Gatineau .

The farm is home to chickens, pigs, alpacas, cows, horses, goats, sheep and rabbits.

Children can therefore go from a paintbrush and a piece of ceramic to a walk among the animals.

Important: ceramic painting and the farm visit are two separate activities.

However, participants in the ceramic painting workshop receive a 50% discount on their farm admission ticket on the day of their activity.

This allows the workshop to be transformed into a real family outing.

Looking for an activity for a less-than-perfect weather day?

When looking for things to do in Gatineau with children , the weather can quickly change plans.

Our ceramic painting workshop takes place in our converted bus, which allows the creative part to be done inside.

So you can plan an artistic activity and then decide, depending on the conditions, whether you also want to enjoy the farm more.

For precise opening conditions and workshop availability, it is always best to consult our booking page before your visit.

How much does ceramic painting cost in Gatineau?

The price varies depending on the room chosen and the duration of the activity.

To plan your outing, we recommend allocating a minimum budget of approximately $32 + tax per participant , depending on the ceramics selected.

Some larger or more elaborate pieces cost more.

The advantage is that everyone can select a project that matches their tastes and budget.

Do we need to book in advance?

Walk-ins are welcome when space is available, but seating on the mobile workshop bus is limited . Online booking remains the best way to secure a spot, especially on weekends and during peak periods. The workshop's current page also indicates that activities are offered daily and recommends booking when space is limited.

An idea for schools, CPEs, daycares and day camps

Are you looking for a school activity in Gatineau , a daycare outing in Aylmer , or a creative activity for a day camp?

Painting on ceramics can also be interesting for groups.

As our workshop bus has limited capacity, large groups require a different arrangement and must contact us in advance.

It is also possible to explore a formula combining a visit to the farm and a creative activity, depending on the size of the group and availability.

Why choose a creative activity in the Outaouais region?

A family outing doesn't necessarily need to be spectacular to become a good memory.

Sometimes the best moment is simply when everyone sits around a table, chooses their colours, chats and creates something together.

And unlike many activities, ceramics leaves a tangible object after the process.

A cup used in the morning.

A figurine placed in a bedroom.

A decoration given to someone.

Or simply a small creation that recalls a day spent together.
